Welcome to [banchan] ⭐️
Subscribers can expect a weekly newsletter every Tuesday morning!
Hello 👋
I’m Skylar, a Korean American filmmaker currently living in New York City!
What is [banchan]?
[banchan] is a little bite of everything I love—film, art, books, food, travel, and personal essays—all laid out like a shared table. It started with my desire to write more freely and reflect more deeply, especially about the work that moves me and the culture that surrounds me here in New York City.
Why [banchan]?
In Korean, banchan (반찬) refers to the small, diverse dishes served at every meal, meant to be shared, savored, and experienced together. This newsletter is my own version of that spirit and communion: eclectic, intimate, and rooted in curiosity. Some weeks it’s a film review. Other weeks, a reflection on a painting, a book, or a restaurant I can’t stop thinking about. Sometimes it’s a bit more personal.
Whether you come for a little bite or stay for the whole meal, there's something here for you.
Subscribe?
If anything here resonates (even just a little bit) I’d love for you to subscribe. It’s the best way to support this newsletter and get new posts straight to your inbox (and maybe even brag about it to your friends).
Thanks for being here and supporting my work. Stick around, pour some tea, and enjoy banchan.
